Hi There, Edmund Here.
Have you ever wondered what it really takes to succeed to in life? That was the topic of today’s Night Owl session that I had with my business associates. If you are a big fan of self development and success books, you will find there are 2 common traits that are prevalent in everyone who is successful.
So what are the 2 traits?
Well, they are PERSISTENCE and CONSISTENCY. Persistence and Consistency in doing everything you need to do to make your business work or do well in your study. The same applies to your work if you are working for someone. Initially, when you start working, I am sure there are many things that you do not know.
It is only through doing the same thing over and over again until it becomes a Habit. That is when you become so proficient at doing the work till a level where you achieved MASTERY. According to this interesting book, OutLiers, by Malcolm Gladwell, you will achieve Mastery once you have performed the same task for 10,000 hours.
It is the same concept here, Success is a Habit. If you cultivate the right success habits through Persistence and Consistence, it is only a matter of time that you will become successful. Therefore, do not be distracted by your friends when they are enjoying yourselves and you are busy working your ass off for your business or study. I would like to end off this quote by my business coach, “Time Will Reveal Whether A Person Is Practicing Success Principles“.
To illustrate this quote better, I have included a graph below:
As you can see from the graph, there is a very thin line between success and failure. First of all, there is no such thing as overnight success because Success Is A Planned Event. You have to plan for it to take place. However, in today’s society, many people are seeking for instant gratification rather than delayed gratification. That is why till today, the 80/20 rule is still valid.
On the brighter side, people who are practicing success principles on a daily basis will eventually become successful. You will reach a breaking point whereby you will be so good at what you are doing that you achieve exponential growth in any endeavor that you are pursuing within a very short period of time. However, you are not able to determine when the breaking point will take place.
But the good news is, as long as you are persistent and consistent in your actions, you will reach a point whereby you will overtake those peers of yours who are enjoying themselves while you are slogging hard for your success at such a tremendous rate that they can never imagined is possible.
Remember that Thomas Edison failed 10’000 times before he invented the light bulb. If he can do it, you can definitely do it. So have faith in god, and keep doing what you need to do to achieve your dreams daily. I have written an article on dream building if you need help in that aspect. 🙂
If you have achieved success by applying these 2 keys, please email me your story. I would love to hear from you. 🙂
